I've found VA albums listed in the Gracenote files that are on the radio using a hex editor, so I'm really hoping that there might be a way to get them to show up as a single album. Note that I have not started working on any albums that have various artists yet. I am also using an iPod classic 160GB to hold my music, so I don't get the irritating tracks-in-alphabetical-order nonsense. I suspect that GraceNote is using those tags to properly identify the music. When you tag the music using MusicBrainz Picard, it also automatically enters tags that normally don't get put there, like ASIN, Barcode, Catalog Number, Record Label, etc. You can adjust MusicBranz Picard to choose US CD releases by default (didn't know that until I was almost done) so that it gets the right tagging info most of the time right off the bat.Īfter going through all of my albums with this program, the only music that I have that doesn't have album art are either bootleg albums, very small releases, or the oddball foreign version of some album. On the "About Face" album, only two of those ten versions display album art. One of the really cool things about this program is that it displays the cover art in the bottom right corner. I've found that for these clunky radios, you get the best results by choosing a US release on CD. You can right-click on the album title and choose "Other Versions >" to select the exact release that you want to use. Many albums were also released on cassette - at least much of the music that I listen to was. Some releases are CD, some are vinyl, and some are unknown, and some are releases in other countries. When it does, it returns 10 releases of that album. When the folder containing that track is dragged into MusicBrainz Picard, the program will go off into the interwebs and try to get the tagging information. I'll admit that much of my digital music collection was acquired by other-than-legitimate means, but the problem also shows up on music that I've purchased via iTunes.įor example, I'll use "About Face" by David Gilmour. I've found that you must have the proper version of the actual CD release tagged into the files. It's not as simple as Artist/Album, though there isn't much more that's displayed on the uConnect screen. I used MusicBrainz Picard (free!) to go through my albums, and most of the tags needed to be updated. I know that sounds simplistic, but it's what the ultimate answer is.
The short answer for the album art not showing up is: You're tagging it wrong. It's not easy, but I got a burst of obsessive/compulsive drive to try to get this darned thing to look the way I want it to. Ok, I've managed to get almost all of my music to display the album art.
